Christo’s Over The River gets federal approval
Christo and Jeanne-Claude’s dream of wrapping the Arkansas River in southern Colorado has finally been approved by the Bureau of Land Management after more than two years of review and public debate. The final step is to secure remaining permits from agencies in Colorado and if successful, the temporary work will go on display between Salida and Cañon City for two consecutive weeks, which could become reality in August 2014.
Over the River is the latest project proposed by the same artist who famously wrapped the Reichstag in 1995.
The majority of locals and businesses in the Royal Gorge region have been excited about the opportunity to not only showcase the spectacular beauty of the Royal Gorge, but be a part of the process, supporting the artists, the dream, and their passion for contemporary art.
