The Royal Gorge Route Railroad
Our most popular attraction is the Royal Gorge Route Railroad which draws over 100,000 visitors from around the world each year. This train was selected as one of the top scenic railroads in the nation and is privately owned by a family with a long history of running quality railroads. The train provides the “whole experience” of the Royal Gorge, where visitors enjoy a 24-mile round-trip journey through this magnificent canyon.The Royal Gorge Route Railroad's train depot is located just south of highway 50 (Royal Gorge Blvd.), south on 3rd Street to the Santa Fe Depot.
What separates this railroad from others in the state, is not only the extraordinary classes of service, but the fine food and dining options visitors may choose from. The train ride takes two-hours to complete the round-trip journey and three hours for dinner and murder mystery trains. This is the region’s jewel and visitors come away knowing that they experienced all the Royal Gorge has to offer and more. The train sells out on many departures, so make reservations early. Royal Gorge Bridge and Park
The Royal Gorge Bridge, owned by the City of Canon City, offers a unique way of seeing the Royal Gorge from a perch over 1,000 feet above the railroad tracks and Arkansas River. The Royal Gorge Bridge and Park offers not only the bridge, but incline railroad, aerial tram, a zoo, carousel, mule rides, and the fun and thrilling SkyCoaster which swings visitors out over the Royal Gorge. The Royal Gorge Bridge is open year-round and located just 20 minutes west of Canon City.

Today, that dream is a reality, and the staff at the winery proudly invites you to share in the vision of those dynamic and innovative monks. Since July 2002, The Winery at Holy Cross Abbey has been attracting visitors from all over the world. Located on the pastoral and serene grounds of The Holy Cross Abbey, nestled against the spectacular backdrop of the Wet Mountains, the winery and tasting room are shining examples of what draws visitors to Cañon City and Fremont County.
This winery is one of Colorado’s best, not only in terms of quality of varietals offered, but it has one of the most interesting tasting rooms and gift shops in Colorado. The Royal Gorge Route Railroad also features the Holy Cross Abbey wines on their trains and guest reviews continue to be stellar.
The tasting room is open daily, and the gracious staff will guide you through a flight tasting of multi-award winning wines. Most are complimentary, while the reserve wines cost $1.00 to taste. Riesling, Merlot, Syrah, Cabernet Sauvignon and Sauvignon Blanc are some of the many Colorado varietals. In the last three years the winery has won over one hundred awards for their wines in various prestigious international competitions.
